Due to the earthquake a lot of normal things to do during the day have been changed, the Santa Lucia park that is only down the road from the hostel is closed, it is a beautiful looking small hill with a park and monuments on it, the galleries and museums are all closed, this only leaves parks and going on walks. I have been on some walks in the city to just have a look around it, on first impressions Santiago hasn't got too much going for it in terms of beauty or architecture, Valparaiso was a much more beautiful city. Santiago does have plenty of green spaces and squares but still seems to be lacking something cosmetically, it doesn't have the artistic beauty of Paris for example or the gravity defying skyline of New York city. It has however got a vast mountain range surrounding the whole city, on a clear day you can see these mountains in great detail in the background, they look like a scene from an old oil painting.
