That night Dries the Belgian guy who worked at the hostel, and I were invited to a couch surfing party . We had both registered with couch surfing but are yet to take advantage of it. Another person who was previously staying at the hostel had invited us, it was the couch surfing ambassador of Santiago. Lulia, the person who had invited us said to meet at a nearby metro station a few block from the hostel at 20.00, we got their a little late because I wanted to get some beers before hand, the queue at the Express Lider supermarket at this time is a little manic and takes a very long time. Then we waited for ages, so Dries went back to the hostel to call her as he had stupidly forgot her number on a piece of paper at the hostel. She explained to him that she had misunderstood the message and forgot but she would be there in 15 minutes or so. Eventually she arrived with the address it was only a few blocks away, we were told it was a rooftop party so were sort of hoping for a big high rise building so we could get a good view of the city at nigh. As we walked and walked all of the high rise building began to disappear and got a lot smaller. We asked for directions and it was only a little further along the road we were on, there were high rises on each corner of this cross junction and we hoped it would be the taller one next to us, and soon enough somebody from the party popped his head over the balcony and waved at us, we were there.
The party was on the 11th floor, the roof of this apartment building, we hadn't actually seen inside any of the apartments but there was a hot tub on the roof and they had a concierge.
There was already quite a few people there, we all said our hellos had brief chats, then started drinking and eating my crisps which I have developed quite an addiction for since Valdivia, the Lays stick chip things. Some of the people were preparing some food, I hadn't gone to eat but to drink but if they have food I'm not complaining. The night went on, everybody got more drunk, chatting to several Chileans, a couple of Germans who both turned out to be really annoying, enough so that it made me feel uneasy and wanted to leave the party, plus out of the blue they had decided to have a collection for the food and go on a mission to buy some beers for everybody, we took this as our cue to leave and got left sharpish.
I actually have no idea what happened next but we met the Swiss guys somewhere and ended up on Bellavista looking for a cheap bar to sit down and drink away the end of the night, we found one that wasn't too prices, about $1800 pesos for a litre of beer which was about the same price as a bottelleria. There was six of us and we easily polished off five or six bottles, went back to the hostel, Lulia stayed as the metro was closed and she lived too far away to walk.
The next morning the receptionist asked who was staying in the bed Lulia had slept in, I pleaded ignorant and said I hadn't noticed and Dries later did the same when he was questioned.
