More news flooding in and the earthquake was a lot more serious than it initially seemed, it was lucky that the epicentre was 25 miles below the sea otherwise it could have been a whole lot worse. Geologists or scientists, whoever said that the quake was approximately 800 times more powerful than the one that devastated Haiti in January, a little on the bleak side but that one killed hundreds of thousands of people and the one here in Chile so far has only claimed 711 lives but a lot more are expected and still unconfirmed. The after shocks however large or small are still going on but in the city centre of Santiago it is quite hard to notice. Walking around the city I can see a little of the devastation, some areas where affected a lot worse than others, the museum of contemporary art for example, the whole roof of the entrance had collapsed and fallen on the lower balcony. The whole museum is obviously closed, the front entrance is cordoned off, and none of the public know the extent of the damage inside, could be fine but then on the other hand a lot of the works of art could have been permanently destroyed. On a lighter note most of the business has resumed, public transport is running again, the date to go back to schools and universities has been postponed. The rest of the affected Chile is a different story, around Concepcion there is still massive rescue efforts to locate all the missing and trapped people, most of those areas have no water, gas or electricity and all of the shops have either closed, been stripped out by looters or destroyed.
