It was the 4th July and there was going to be a big fireworks display on the Hudson river put on by the Macy's department store. I had no idea what was going on and what to do for it so I checked online and it didn't really give me much info on it. I sat in the hostel common room and there were a couple of guys talking about there being some free concert in Battery park today because of the 4th July celebrations. It sounded like it might be worth going to so I asked if I could tag along. We were going to head out early afternoon, it was still morning at this point so I had a while. I got some ice tea and a subway and sat and ate, then had a shower soon enough it was time to go. We got the subway all the way down to the park and walked around a bit to try and find the entrance to the concert area. We ended up walking through a small gap in the fence to get in, past some organic ice cream stand that they wouldn't stop ranting and raving about. It was definitely a family affair, I felt really out of place being there, looking around it was just young couples with little kids running around. To make things even worse there was a woman dressed up as a clown chasing after and trying to find another woman dressed up as a baby. It was ridiculous, even the music was pretty poor, there was one bad that I sat through but then some guy came out, I had seen his face on billboard before this, I think he was some kind of TV show singer or something, he wasn't that great, it was like old folky Bob Dylan for kids. The only good thing about the concert was that there was a stand giving out free water bottles, the sports bottle sort, the ones with the funny top. I needed a bottle like that do made the most of it and got one. Then I left.
