Back to the bar to watch the rest of the football and play some more skee ball. Rowan and myself really wanted to go to an area of New Orleans called 'Frenchman st'. It was where all the locals went to see local bands and go to good bars and clubs away from all the money makers and tourists in the French quarter. It was Rowan's last night in New Orleans so we were going to have another big one so drank some beers at the bar, back to the hostel for more beers then headed out to Frenchman st. Jeff had arranged to meet a girl in a club on Frenchman st, we all went there together, from just looking at it you could see that it was going to be a million times better than Bourbon st. the bars looked cool not tacky, the music we could hear sounded like proper modern jazz not covers of classics and the people walking around didn't have cameras around their necks or were they wearing Hawaiian shirts. The first bar we went in was the one we could hear from the street opposite and about a hundred metres down the road. The music we could hear was jazz but had a very modern twist and sounded like it was a brass band with a little percussion. There was no cover charge to get in, the man on the door said a minimum of one drink was required but they don't really care to enforce it. The band was comprised of three trumpet players, two on the trombones, one on a tuber and two on percussion. The sound coming from them was amazing, and very bizarre as they looked like the kind of guys that you would see playing American football or basketball or something like that, not playing jazz. The only thing that let them down was that the lead one had a bad singing voice. The tuber being used instead of a bass guitar was phenomenal, the beat was so good, the sound so deep and catchy. We stayed in for the whole set, gave a tip, had a drink and then left to go elsewhere. I had a red bull because I was unusually tired but was in no way ready for backing down and going to sleep.
