I woke up early in the morning to watch the morning games, I didn't quite make it in time for the first game, the first game starts in New Orleans time at 7.00am and I wasn't up and about until about 8.30am so I got to see the last bits of the game. Australia were playing the afternoon game and I met a couple of Australian lads who were up for going to the French quarter to find a bar to watch the game in. The day before to watch the England game, they went to a bar down the road from the hostel. Unfortunately the bar was closed, even though there was a sign clearly posted on the wall saying that they were showing all world cup games, obviously not as the case may be. This meant we had to go and find another bar and the time was ticking down, not long until kick off and none of us had any idea of where we could go to watch the game. We ventured further into the French quarter, we were walking and walking and could not find anywhere to go. We asked somebody and they gave us directions to a supposed sports bar but when we got in, it turned out to be a restaurant that had TV screens and expensive drinks. We left abruptly and searched elsewhere, we randomly stumbled upon this Irish pub that had an Italian flag hanging, not an Irish flag, silly bastards, clearly not Irish. It was a dive but was perfect for what we were looking for, they were showing the game and had cheap beer. They had a bucket of beer for $10, the beer was Miller High Life so not the best but it would most certainly do.
