The next morning we woke up early as it was a big game for most people, England were playing Germany in the first game of the knockout stages. Germany looked very much on form and England were looking dare I say it 'awful', not as bad as Italy were so there is a positive in my statement. Last night we were joined by a German guy named Fabian, he was very passionate and made it funny because of the bater between him and the guys from Leeds. We went to midtown Manhattan to look for a bar that was showing the game, we had to leave around 10.00am or as close to as possible to give us time to get down and find a bar. False advertising everywhere we looked. All of the bars said that they were showing most if not every world cup game but most of them didn't open until after midday. This was ridiculous, none of us were standing for it but were fast running out of time so we walked around and round looking for a place to watch it. We found a saviour in the most bizarre of places. The Burger King outside of Madison Square Gardens had TV screens on every wall and were showing the full game complete with sound. As soon as we walked in Germany scored their first goal, the game was already off with a bang. I could not eat a single thing as my belly felt a little off from all the beer and bad fast food so I settled with a big, massive cup of iced tea. We stuck around to watch the whole game then when it finished the banter began between Fabian and the guys from Leeds, to be fair it was a game riddled with dodgy decisions one costing England a goal but from Germany's performance I thought no matter if the goal had been given or not, they would have still won. We were with another Irish girl, she had been at the hostel and came along to watch the game then had to get a train as soon as it finished from New York's Penn station. We were across the road from it so we said our goodbyes then we headed off downtown towards Greenwich village. We walked down and ended up in some Mexican market/street festival thing, it wasn't very big but took up a whole block outside of the Chelsea hotel. I always thought that the Chelsea was supposed to be some fantastic hotel but on the outside it looked pretty average, if I had the money I would stay at the Waldorf Astoria or the Plaza.
