The plane didn't land until gone midnight so I was very tired now, fortunately I had booked a hostel for a few nights so I did have a place to stay, it wasn't all bad. Another delay with the baggage coming out, we were waiting by the baggage claim conveyor belt for bloody ages, must have been over an hour and still nothing, it was really annoying, all I wanted to do was go to bed and get some sleep. My bag finally appeared and I was right out of the door to get a taxi to my hostel. The taxi I got has a flat rate of $33 US, I was willing to pay that as I had no other choice really, I didn't know what New Orleans was like or what the transport links were like. The driver was saying that he had been a taxi driver in New Orleans for twenty five years and had never even been to the neighbourhood where the hostel was, from that I gathered that he had no idea where he was going and I could be in for a very long night. Worse still was that I wasn't booked in until the morning, even though it was technically the morning, it was still classed as the night before so I would have to check in for one extra night which didn't matter, it was what I was expecting but I didn't actually know if they had space or if it was still open or anything so I was a little worried at the least. Fortunately when I arrived about half an hour after leaving the airport, the place was still open, there was somebody at the reception. He said that I'm really lucky as he was just about to close up and go to bed. It was now gone 2.00 am. Well, I was in and they had beds available. The receptionist who was actually the owner of the hostel showed me around briefly as it was pitch black and really late, and there were people sleeping. For some reason everybody was awake in my room, one guy (some old guy in hostel terms) was having a phone conversation to his wife rather loudly. Another was on the internet doing something or other and then there was me!
