The next afternoon, we went for a coffee and tea and got some supplies for our long journeys ahead of us, mine was twenty four hours and Giovanni had a twenty two hour bus. We checked our emails in the coffee shop, then left to make our way to our buses.
My bus was delayed and hour and a half, when it finally arrived it was a crap old bus, the air conditioning didn't work, it had few windows and was completely full. I was not looking forward to it, for some reason I opted for the window seat even though I like to get up occasionally. The journey can easily be described as twenty four hours of living hell, cramped, ridiculously hot and the bus kept on stopping for twenty minutes or so, no air conditioning, only open vents that do nothing when you are stationary. The closer we got into the jungle, the hotter it became. It is so hot in fact that just sitting in my pants doing nothing is making me pour with sweat. I got a tuk tuk from the bus terminal to a hostel, the room was quoted at $75 Soles per night, I spoke to the driver on the way and he arranged it to be $25 Soles, lets hope its okay. It looks fine, the bed is moderately comfy, there is an en suite shower and toilet minus a seat. It will do for one night. I gotta get up before five to get a taxi to the dock and get a boat at 7.00am to take me along the Amazon to Iquitos. Unfortunately my leg has started to swell again so I have to go and track down some more ibuprofen to stop it.
